Limiting factors:
A factor that limits or effect an ecosystem productivity and growth,distribution.
Liebig,s law:
Growth is controlled by the total amount of food source available but controlled by the scarest resources.
1.Temperature of limiting factors:
The degree of coldness or hotness in an object or organism etc.
Measured by thermometer.
Show many variations according latitude and attitude.
After light temperature greatly effects plants and animals.
Both minimum and maximum can effect organism.
2.Effect on plants and animals:
1.Metabolism:
Increase in temperature also increase metabolism(increase in K.E).
E.G:Enzyme+Substrate enhanced the activities.
3.Effect on reproduction:
Effects plant through thermoperiodism(response of plant to temperature fluctuations).
In animal maturation of gonads is effected.
E.G:Blow fly _increase up to 32°c.
4.Effect on Growth and development:
Plants:
Low temperature cause desiccation(blockness of vessels),
Injury(freezing).
High temperature cause stunted growth.
Animals:
E.g Oyster body length increase.
From 10mm to 12mm with increase in temperature from 10°c to 20°c.
5.Crossing over:
E.G: Drosophila larva have high wings at high temperature and short wings at low temperature.
6.Sex ratio:
E.g∷Dephnoi.
At normal temperature(All the eggs are converted partinogeanically into females).
Due to rise in temperature(both males and females can be produced).
7.Effect on colouration:
Increase in temperature the production of melanin so the stem color become darker and vice versa.
8.Effect on distribution:
Low temperature adopt animals can live in poles.
E.G : polar bear.
High temperature adopted animals will live in desert and plane areas.
Moderate in jungle and planes.
